Frequently Asked Questions

Please understand that Charity Chicks Houston (CCH) is run by 2 chicks with full-time jobs and commitments that runneth over.  We get dozens of amazing and inspiring emails and questions from wonderful do-gooders just like you, but unfortunately can’t respond to each and every e-mail. We’ve created a list of FAQs and hopefully you’ll find your answer there!

How do I get involved?

The first and most important step is to sign up for our email newsletter through our website as a chick or peep.  By deciding which kind of “chick” you want to be, we’ll know how active you can and want to be.  Your inbox needn’t get anxious as we only send about one newsletter a month.  As real-life marketers, we vow not to send you tons of emails.  We also have a Facebook page and Twitter account.  You are welcome and highly encouraged to attend as many of our events as possible so we get a chance to know you and get you more involved with the Houston charitable community.

Can you plan an event for us?

We LOVE learning about new charities and organizations.  Most of our events (the theme, name of events AND charities they support) are planned at least 6-10 months out, and our members have a huge say on what charities we plan events for.  We send out an annual survey to gauge the interests of our members and then we go from there.  We’re always happy to help promote an event that you’re hosting through our website, Facebook and Twitter (see the next 2 questions and answers below for details on how to get this info to us).

I know about a charity event, volunteer opportunity or charitable organization that you should list on your website.  Will you post it?

Oh yes!  We’ll post links to event info if the event is at least 2 weeks away.  Please don’t send us a document, it’s much harder for us to post, a link will be perfect.  We also love to help Houston learn about different charities, so just send us a link if the one you love isn’t already on our “Houston Resources” page online.  If you send us something and we don’t post it right away, just sit tight, we update our website about once a week.

How can I reach your members?

One of our favorite questions!  Since we do this on a side/part-time basis, we can’t always interact personally with all of our members.  We encourage you to post on our Facebook page (about charity, volunteer, inspirational, do-gooder things ONLY) and share with all of our fans. Feel free to ask for sponsors, donors, and especially volunteers.  Especially if you need volunteers, let people know who to contact for more info.  Please do NOT post anything unrelated to the charitable nature.  We do not want our fan page filled with silliness – that’s what the rest of the Internet is for.  You can also tweet info to us @charitychicks and we’ll retweet charitable info to our followers.  We do have sponsorship opportunities available on our website and newsletter where you CAN advertise a good or service.  Please email us with subject line “Advertise” to discuss those options.

We are starting a charity, can you give us some advice/tips?

CCH basically serves as a charity for charities, we are NOT a 501(c)3 therefore can not offer advice on how to start that particular process.  We plan events for 501(c)3 charities and all event net proceeds goes directly to those charities.

Can I buy a link or ad on your website or newsletter?

Yes!  This is the way we help fund the very small overhead of CCH (business cards, flyers, web hosting, etc.).  Please email us with subject line “Advertise” for reasonable rates.  (Remember, we are in marketing so when we say reasonable, we know what that means!)  Also, you can check out some of our ad pricing on our Advertise page.

Are there chapters in other cities?  Can I start a Charity Chicks group in my town?

CCH is not affiliated with any other group (though there are similar names in a few cities).  Every time someone asks us how they can start a chapter in their city we get excited with uncontrollable jazz hands.  We are currently working on a small document with some tips and how we got started.  Keep in mind, we are not experts.  We are 2 girls (friends and co-workers) with a desire to help, and contacts and friends who have helped get us to where we are.  If you do start a similar group, we’d love to chat but will remain unaffiliated.

Can we set up a meeting to talk about an event or a charity?

While we love getting together for coffee or lunch, we must be realistic that our time is severely limited.  Feel free to send us your request along with why you want/need to meet and we will assess on a case by case basis.  Don’t get mad – we’re just being up front so we can focus on upcoming events and charities we are working with.  Thank you for thinking of us!

You can also e-mail us (chicks@charitychickshouston.com) to:

  • Tell us about a non-profit organization you love.
  • Let us know about an upcoming charity or volunteer event.
  • Share an event idea with us that you think we should plan.
  • Give us suggestions on how to improve Charity Chicks Houston.
